We find "Mucuchies", their colors & crafts incredible, people who always wears ponchos to protect themselves from the cold. We continue along our path where we see side by side, fields covered by the golden ears of wheat and barley. We reach the highest town in Venezuela to meet San Rafael and his Chapel of Coromoto, built entirely in stone by the popular artist, a native of San Rafael, Juan Felix Sanchez. We enter the highest village in the country, which is exactly 3342 meters and are rewarded with their Andean candy, food, and charming inhabitants. From there, the temperature starts to drop, and it is because we are reaching Mucubají Lagoon, one of the park's glacial lakes, splendid and beautiful. Here we can taste 100% Venezuelan chocolate and artisanal hot foods then get ready for the trip to Black Lagoon, famous for her beauty and sleep in a very cozy inn or if you want to, camp at the Laguna Mucubají.
Day 2
We continue along the road and see the curves that mark the ascent of the mountain to reach the highest point in the country, the Paso del Condor. It is here where the birds take refuge, and depending on the month, is snow bound. We start to go down to Timotes, another beautiful Andean town, passing a curved bridge under which flows the stream Mifafi, clean and loud. Here you can see from the bed of the ravine to the summit. At the end of the trail you will find the Central Bio-Andean Foundation Station , where we will receive information about the program of acclimatization, breeding and promotion of the Andean Condor and will see two of these creatures, kept to acclimatize, maintain and study these animals in captivity.
Continuing down to find the statue of the Loca Luz Caraballo. The black silhouette of the legend of the moor, immortalized by the poet Andrés Eloy Blanco in the verses that can be read on the bronze plaques placed on one side, but it is best to hear the legend in the voice of one of the children the moor appears to relate so well to. And from there we return back to our inn.
